Welcome family, friends and neighbors. With YOUR support, I
completed ALL THREE Texas Chapter MS Bike rides in 2008!
I raised over $2000 in donations, received my very first Century Patch for riding over 100 miles in a single
day, an honorary patch for riding over the Channel Harbor Bridge in Corpus
Christi and my MS Tri-Cycling Series jacket for completing all three rides.
It was a great year leaving me feeling physically and emotionally stronger
than ever. I am again asking for your support as we move steadily through 2009.
Each year, the Texas Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society
organizes three, two-day bike rides around Texas to raise funds for people
living with MS. For 2009, I will again participate and fundraise for
all three Texas Chapter MS Bike Rides. I
rely entirely on your continued generosity and support.
Please take a moment to find out more about multiple sclerosis, event
details and how your donation makes a difference below. Your continuing support is truly
appreciated!
What is multiple sclerosis? Multiple sclerosis is
a progressive neurological disorder that affects people in many
different ways. It could be paralysis one day, loss of vision the
next or impaired memory the day after that. Living with MS means
living with uncertainty. When it comes to MS, only two things are
certain: Another American is diagnosed every hour of every day. Click here to find out more.
Many people are joining the movement toward a world free of MS...
including me! When you support the ride, you become a part of the
powerful movement that will end MS forever. Please take a moment
and offer your support by making a generous donation below.
The
BP MS 150 is a 180 mile two-day fundraising bike ride from
Houston to Austin organized by the Lone Star Chapter. This ride is the
largest non-profit event of its kind in North America with 13,000
cyclists, 3,000 volunteers and countless supporters and spectators. In
2008, the event raised more than $15 million for multiple sclerosis.
180 miles?! Check out the Cyclist Route Map
here.
In preparation for this two day ride, I participate in several organized
rides leading up to the weekend of the event. These rides support
many schools and non-profit organizations. Check them out below.

The
Bike MS: SAM’S CLUB is a two-day fundraising bike ride from
Frisco to Fort Worth organized by the Lone Star Chapter. 2009
marks the 22nd annual ride for North Texas. On Saturday morning,
May 2, 4,000 cyclists will pedal from Dr. Pepper Ballpark, home of the
Frisco RoughRiders, and take an overnight pit stop at Texas Motor
Speedway. The following morning, riders take a victory lap for
persons with MS on the speedway's huge racetrack, then head to the
Finish Line at Sundance Square in historic downtown Fort Worth. In 2008,
the event raised more than $2 million for multiple sclerosis.
On each
of these rides, I always carry a Bike MS Champions
bandana with the name of an individual living with MS. This
program connects people living with MS and cyclists to not only put a
“face” on the disease, but to also foster education, awareness,
gratitude, and most importantly, hope.
Training is a year-round commitment. The time between the BP and
Sam's Club rides is a short few weeks so I continue my training as a
member of the
Woodlands Cycling Club. They
offer several rides all week long for many different riding skill and
endurance levels. They also offer cycling-related educational
classes on a variety of topics during their monthly member's meeting.
